A responsible approach

We've worked hard to make our carbon footprint smaller, across all our products and services. So, when you partner with us, you make your carbon footprint smaller, too. Our research reveals up to 35% of decorators have been asked by their clients about sustainability. Discover how we can help you reach your goal to work more sustainably.

Helping you. Protecting the planet.

We now offer many water-based products that are kinder to the environment. We’re making it easier for you to reduce waste, too. You can dispose of your empty paint cans for free at your local Dulux Decorator Centre. We can even collect empty tins from you on-site when we deliver to you.

Our Sustainability Commitments

Sustainable building standards

Even if you don’t need to certify the sustainability of your work, it’s useful to know what you must do to meet "green building" standards. There are 2 globally recognised environment rating systems to be aware of.
  • BREEAM

(Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method)

BREEAM certifications are more common in the UK. An assessor is required to give the finished building work a rating. The higher the rating, the greater the sustainability requirements.

  • LEED

(Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design)

This global rating system for sustainable and environmentally sound buildings is based on a pass-fail system.

Ways we’re helping you improve your customers’ homes

Customers often think about colour first, but you can help them understand the benefits of choosing products that combine great colour with sustainable benefits. We’re on a mission to reduce the harmful carbon-containing compounds that negatively impact air quality (VOC’s) and are replacing solvent-based paints with water-based paint where possible. That means cleaner air while you decorate, and a cleaner option for the planet, too.

  • Water-based paints

All Dulux Trade interior emulsion paints are now water-based. This means they contain less VOCs (volatile organic compounds) than solvent-based alternatives. So they produce less emissions and have less odour. This applies to Dulux Trade Quick Dry Gloss and Dulux Trade Quick Dry Satin, too. Dulux Trade Diamond Matt is 99.9% VOC-free.

  • Problem-solving paints

Water-based Dulux Trade Sterishield, originally developed for hospitals, contains an active ingredient that fights bacteria. Suitable for all interior walls and ceilings, it’s also 99.9% VOC-free, making it a family-friendly solution for kitchens and bathrooms. Dulux Trade Mouldshield contains a mild fungicide that targets allergen-triggering mould and helps prevent fungal growth.
