Adelphi Hotel Reborn: A Masterpiece in Hospitality Renovation

Dulux Decorator Centre played a pivotal role in the comprehensive refurbishment of the Adelphi Hotel in Portrush, providing paint solutions and expert advice to breathe new life into this iconic property. As part of an ambitious redevelopment project, the transformation aimed to establish the Adelphi Hotel as a premier destination on the Causeway Coast.

The project, which began in May 2024, brought together multiple trades to rejuvenate the hotel's 34 en-suite rooms, new Italian grill restaurant, and spa facilities. Dulux Decorator Centre was a partner throughout the project, offering specification assistance, technical support, colour matching, product supply, and regular on-site visits to ensure every detail was taken care of.

Smart solutions for complex needs

Refurbishing a historic hotel comes with unique challenges, from uneven surfaces to pre-finished doors with poor adhesion. Dulux Decorator Centre worked closely with painting contractor MS Decorating to solve these issues, providing on-site testing and adapting specifications quickly when technical issues arose.

Preparation was a crucial step in reviving the hotel’s older surfaces and Dulux Decorator Centre recommended a robust preparation system to ensure a smooth, long-lasting result. Dulux Trade Aqua UniPrimer and Dulux Trade Quick Dry Undercoat were used to create a stable foundation, helping the topcoats adhere properly and perform over time. For high-traffic areas, Dulux Trade Quick Dry Satinwood was chosen for its durable, fast-drying formula, allowing the team to stick to tight deadlines without sacrificing the quality of the finish.

To achieve a flawless interior, Dulux Trade Vinyl Matt was used as the topcoat on the walls. This product provides excellent opacity and boasts a 99.9% VOC-free formula, significantly reducing harmful emissions and helping to reduce the impact on indoor air quality. Dulux Trade Diamond Eggshell was applied in spaces requiring additional durability, delivering a long-lasting finish that can withstand the demands of a busy hospitality environment. To meet fire safety regulations, Dulux Trade Pyroshield was incorporated for its fire-retardant protection that doesn’t compromise the hotel’s aesthetic.

Collaborating to ensure success

Time constraints posed a significant challenge on the project. As such, efficient planning and product application were needed to meet the strict deadlines. The use of products with faster drying times, combined with Dulux Decorator Centre’s next-day delivery and on-site technical assistance, ensured the project progressed smoothly. Continuous communication between the Dulux Decorator Centre team and contractors on site allowed for swift problem-solving and a seamless redecoration process.

Seamus Reid, Managing Director at MS Decorating, said: “The decision to work with Dulux Decorator Centre was an easy one, as we have built a trusted relationship with the company over years of successful collaborations. Beyond supplying products, Dulux Decorator Centre provided expert advice on product selection and suitability, ensuring every element of the refurbishment met the hotel’s high standards. The team’s support extended to managing the supply chain, ensuring timely deliveries to keep the project on track.”
