Painting a ceiling with paint rollers is time-consuming and can damage the texture. Using an airless paint sprayer for walls and ceilings is a more efficient way to paint textured areas, preserving the texture's appearance while providing complete and uniform coverage. Read our tips for painting a ceiling with Graco paint sprayers.
1. Preperation
moved to the center and covered completely. Ensure there's ample space for your tools and equipment.
Protect surfaces you don't want painted. Use masking tape to protect trim, and cover walls you don't want painted with plastic tarps or protective paper. Remove or cover light fixtures.
2. Spraying exterior walls
Choose the spray tip that best suits your paint and the surface you're spraying. Ensure the tip's hole size doesn't exceed your ceiling sprayer's maximum capacity (check your manual). If using paint from multiple containers, mix it in a 10-liter container to guarantee consistent color.
If spraying only the ceiling, mask correctly using paper, plastic tarps, or a spray shield to protect the walls. If using a spray shield, position it tightly at a 45-degree angle in the corner where the wall meets the ceiling.
For an easy way to paint ceilings, start at a corner where the ceiling and wall meet. Spray along that edge from one side of the room to the other. After the first pass, continue spraying repeated passes until the ceiling is covered, overlapping each pass by 50%.
3. Finishing touches
Allow ample time for the paint to dry before removing the tape from your trim. This will ensure crisp, clean lines.
Remove all coverings from furniture and other areas.
Reinstall any removed lighting fixtures and return furniture or other items to their original places.
Clean your airless paint sprayer after each use. Follow the instructions in your user's manual for Power Flush cleaning with water-based materials or use the bucket method if applicable. Refer to your Sprayer Operation Manual for more details.
