Colouring the
Community
A beautiful mural has been painted onto a memorial wall in Bridgetown Village, thanks to a generous paint donation from the local Dulux Decorator Centre, on North Street in Cannock.
More than 40 volunteers within the community, including Cannock Chase District Council street wardens, Territorial Army military police, the fire service, the British Legion, parish councillors, residents and local school children from Bridgetown Primary School took part in the project.
The team spent a day preparing the wall with masonry paint before the mural could be painted onto it. The mural, which depicts the events of British wars, was designed by a local artist with help from Bridgetown Primary School children.
Following the painting of the wall, the volunteers continued working in the surrounding gardens transforming it into a welcoming play area for the local children.
Rhona Gudgin, project leader for the memorial wall mural, said: "We are extremely grateful to Dulux Decorator Centres for its generous donation. The memorial wall is a project which involved the whole community and it has really helped to bring a sense of pride to the town.
"Many community members have had loved ones who were involved in the British wars over the years, so it has meant a lot to be able to preserve their memories in some way."
Paul Holder, store manager of Cannock Dulux Decorator Centre, said: "It's fantastic that we were able to help out so many with this donation. The memorial wall now looks amazing - there are certainly some talented artists in the town - and I will be encouraging all my customers to visit it and have a look for themselves."
